House 335

Studio BHD presents the renovation of a house along Pearl Valley Golf Course, where the design intent centers on expanding presence, framing landscape, and refining material truth. To create volume and height without compromising the integrity of the existing fabric, an additional floor has been added, elevating the home to offer panoramic views over the golf course, the surrounding trees, and the distant Simonsberg mountains.

The added story is conceived as a seamless conversation with the original structure, drawing from the site’s generous horizon and the country’s refined material language. Clerestory and framed openings are carefully positioned to capture light and views at every level, ensuring that the interior remains radiant, legible, and connected to the outdoors.

The resulting massing reads as a confident response to the landscape—an elevated, contemporary gesture that respects the house’s lineage while providing new spatial volume, depth, and axial sightlines across the fairways toward the mountains. Internally, the renovation emphasizes clarity of circulation and the adaptability of spaces, with open plans that can transition between public and private use. Natural materials and honest detailing prevail, reinforcing tactile warmth and durability, while large windows and terraces knit the interior to the exterior golf course panorama. The project aims to celebrate the scenic context—green of the course, the canopy of trees, and the distant peaks—through disciplined architecture that is timeless, light-footed, and deeply rooted in place.
